How to Write Copy for Your YouTube Video Script

As the world’s second largest search engine, YouTube has become an essential platform for businesses and individuals alike to showcase their products and services. And while the old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words” still rings true, the power of video shouldn’t be underestimated. In fact, including a video on a landing page can increase conversion rates by 80%.

But just as important as creating a video is scripting it. The copy you include in your YouTube video is what will engage viewers, spur them to take action, and ultimately, convert them into leads or customers.

Here are a few tips to consider when writing copy for your YouTube video script:

1. Keep it short and sweet

The average attention span of an internet user is just eight seconds. So, it’s important to get to the point quickly. Start with a hook that captivates your audience and keeps them watching until the very end.

2. Write for the ear, not the eye

Since your viewers will be watching and listening to your video rather than reading it, your copy should be written in a way that is easy to digest and understand. This means using short sentence fragments and active rather than passive voice.

3. Use keywords

Just as you would with any other type of content, be sure to include relevant keywords in your YouTube video script. This will not only help you rank higher in search engine results pages, but it will also ensure that your video is being served to the right audience.
